Due to its monumentality and perfect state of conservation, the urban centre of Mirambel is one of the most outstanding examples of medieval urban architecture, not only in the province, but also in the country as a whole, as can be seen from its declaration as a Historic-Artistic Site and the fact that in 1982 it was recognised with the Europa Nostra prize, the most prestigious worldwide award for outstanding projects in the defence of European cultural heritage. Mirambel was the first town in Spain to receive this recognition, shared in the 1982 edition with such important projects as the restoration of the Bollani Palace in Venice or the revitalisation of the historic centre of the English town of Chesterfield.
